THINGS THAT MATTER MOST IN LIFE

Just this morning, a mug in which I had put pens and other stationery toppled and nearly broke. However, I was quick to catch it in the air but items in it poured on the ground. I picked them up and placed them back inside the unbroken mug.

Within the second, the question, “What Matters To You Most?” came to mind.

I had the chance to save either one of these two: The Mug or the Pens and other Stationery. If I had saved the pens and the others, the mug would have been broken. Besides because there were a lot of other items, I still might have lost some to the ground.

If I saved the mug, yes, I would lose the other items to the ground. But because none is breakable, I could still pick them up, clean them and put them right back into the mug, as if nothing happened. Well I am glad, with a split second decision, I made this second choice.

This led me to thinking of the THINGS THAT MATTER MOST IN LIFE.

A lot of us are bothered with so many things in life. We have focused on Money, Fame, Beautiful houses, Beautiful wives, Cars, Private Jets even, Personal Beauty, Educational Excellence, International Businesses and many other things that we have come to believe are important for survival and satisfaction. Actually, we have always thought wrong the things that really matter most.

Well, at a point, I thought so too. But this morning’s lesson has taught me to look at the things that REALLY matter quite differently. This is however, not to suggest that the up listed things are bad but to give hope to the visionaries of such future, while they don’t jeopardize the most important reasons for true happiness.

I have come to realize that they are not the tangible stuff we boast around about but the “Substances” that mold our very “Forms”. “It is not the eye but the sight, nor the ear but the hearing…” Here are some I have come to believe are the THINGS THAT MATTER MOST IN LIFE.

1. WORSHIP

Worship in this context is not the singing of songs and praying while gathered together with others of like mind in an auditorium at given times. This time, it means living a holy right life. Worship as a lifestyle is acknowledging the GodHead in every aspect of one’s life. There is such joy and fulfillment in living right with God and fellow humans. This cannot be quantified but only internally felt be the individual in such form of Worship. This is one of the things that matter most in life. 

2. FAMILY

Family, whether blood related or not, is like a shield and a place of closure and security in a person’s life. Family provides and protects, family shares and binds individuals together. Family is where you don’t have to have secrets; they are safe. Family is everlasting. Neither quarrels nor hurts felt of another, breaks the trust and love shared. In Family geniuses are born and made, leaders are shaped and societies are influenced. This is where most emotional, physical and psychological needs are fully catered for. There is no place like in warm arms Family. It is one of the Places (maybe Things) that matter most in life. So find one and create one because everybody belongs to one and is entitled to one.

3. HEAD TO THINK

Where there is the head, there is thought. Thought is what a man is. You are now, the thoughts of your yesterday and your tomorrow would represent the thoughts of your today. Thinking gives you the ability to become what you are purposed to become. It is good to think but placed under control. By this thinking I do not mean thoughts of past failures and misfortunes. Do not waste your thoughts on the things that a past and gone but rather on the things that will make you fulfilled in future. Your Thought is a very important force on earth, which drives actions and inactions whether consciously or unconsciously, into view and tangibility. If you are able to think positive of your future, you are blessed because there is the good percent likelihood that it will all come to pass. When you use your head well, you can think on subjects and provide some form of solution to problems, and then you are happy. Head and Thinking is one of the things that matter most in life.

4. HEART TO LOVE

Everybody is got a heart that pumps blood to all the parts of the body to sustain life and growth. However, not everybody has got the Heart to Love. Loving is a dicey circumstance that for ages has been handled wrongly. True love is to care for another with no expectations of receiving anything back. This kind of love is a reward in itself. There is so much fulfillment in loving someone unconditionally. The joy in loving someone is overwhelming. At least, you pride in the fact that you haven’t denied your emotional heart from loving. Love heals.

But the twist about this whole concept is that while you love one, another loves you. There is some refreshing feeling which cannot be quantified, that comes with the knowledge that you are loved by someone else. Yes, you too. No one deserves it but everybody is entitled to it. The sincere joy associated with loving people and being genuinely loved back is what makes the Heart and its Love one of the things that matters most in life.

5. HANDS TO WORK

Work, not job, is the ability to tap into your inner self and produce something unique onto the earth; something that is meant to help other people and/or make the world a better place to be. Work is getting rewards from your gifts, talents, ministry, thoughts, and others while you enjoy doing such functions. There is no better sight than to see a part of you live in other people through your work. This is what makes Hands of Work one of the things that matter in life.  

6. SEXUAL ORGAN FOR TRUE PLEASURE

Sexual pleasure is heaven ordained. Though abused in the world today, it still carries the weight placed on it to provide true emotional pleasure to those involved, within the right context of act. The sexual organs are the most important tools in this sexual pleasure. This is not to say that they are the sole reason for satisfaction. There are other ways to attain sexual pleasure without the organs involved but they are the primary apparatus for the job. Can you imagine how a man would feel if his manhood is unable to erect even at the stance of arousal or a woman when hers is totally damaged because of female circumcision or STD? Totally worthless, I guess. In life, sex matters a lot and so are its emotions both before and after it. This is the naturally true and pure way of enjoyment, emotional satisfaction and even procreation as a result of the act. The sexual organ for true pleasure is one of the things that should not be taken lightly because it matters most in life.

As you can see, the things that really matter in life are within reach. This is mainly because they are bought with money or resources. They are attracted into one’s life by personal consciousness and actions. Everybody is capable of Worship, have a Family, develop a Head to Think, nurture a Heart to Love, equip the Hands to Work and secure the Sexual Organ for True Pleasure. No one can buy True Love or family, etc.

Let us start focusing on the things that matter most in life over the things that are probably necessary but unimportant. You can get all the flashy things and not have the things that matter most in life and believe you, me; that is worse than death.
